On Friday, June 3, 2016, around 1430 hours, Celebrity Cruises’ Infinity cruise ship had a collision at berth 3 while docking in Ketchikan Alaska, according to assistant harbor master Dan Berg.
The collision resulted in striking some pylons and causing a catwalk to collapse, falling into the harbor. The cruise ship got a scrape during the incident.
City of Ketchikan Port and Harbors Director Steve Corporon told the Ketchikan Daily News that Berth 3 was damaged Friday when Celebrity Infinity, pushed by winds, struck the dock. Until the dock is repaired, the port will have to go back to its pre-2007 operations, when there were only two berths, Corporon said. The simple answer is that we're going to have to have them anchor out and tender (passengers) in," Corporon said.
At the time of the incident Celebrity Infinity was in port docked near Holland America Line's Zaandam and Regent Seven Seas Cruises Seven Seas Mariner. Other cruise ships in port which departed right before the incident were Holland America Line's Amsterdam and Cruise Line's Pearl.
