Hongdo Cruise Co MV Vacance Cruise Ship Grounding Near Seoul South Korea 109 Passengers Aboard Rescued – Hongdo Cruise Co MV Vacance cruise ship grounded, hit a submerged rock near Hongdo Island, South Jeolla Province in South Korea, approximately 210 miles southwest of Seoul, Korea with 104 passengers and five crew members aboard on Tuesday September 30, 2014 around 0900 hours.

The South Korea Coast Guard, received the first distress call about 9:14 a.m. local time, rushing to scene of the cruise ship accident, they along with the help of numerous fishing vessels rescued all the people aboard the partially sunk cruise ship MV Vacance.

MV Vacance has a capacity of 355 passengers, but was sailing with only one third of capacity her voyage around the island of Hongdo. MV Vacance takes the voyage around the island three times a day. It had left on the first cruise of the day when it sailed too close to the island, grounding on the rocks.
