On March 13, 2008, the cruise ship Georgis, embarked on a day cruise from Piraeus to the Saronic islands of Aegina, Hydra and Poros. She was sailing for a day-long cruise in calm seas on a bright and beautiful day, struck a reef. Three nautical miles from the city of Poros.

The rescue included coast guard vessels, four minesweepers, a torpedo boat, a military transport plane and seven helicopters.

Officials now say the ship will not sink, as they are managing the vessel, which was taking on water quickly.
